Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (Auto Theft). Police said my client had stolen an acquaintance's car. Police did no investigation other than to take an accident report and the alleged victim's statement. My investigation showed that the "acquaintance" was really a friend who frequently loaned her car to my client, and who had in fact gone out partying with my client on the evening of the alleged auto theft.
